Department of Medical Education Overview
The Department of Medical Education (DOME) coordinates all aspects medical education across UC Merced, including:
Medical Student (M.D.) Experience:
- Overseeing medical student education during Foundations 1 at UC Merced
- Supporting UC Merced DOME foundational science faculty and UCSF Fresno physician faculty to teach the Foundations 1 curriculum
- Coordinating medical student support, well-being, and engagement activities during Foundations 1
- Supporting medical student assessment, feedback, and remediation during Foundations 1
- Collaborating with UCSF San Francisco and UCSF Fresno for program integration, shared learning, and longitudinal student support such as specialty choice, coaching, etc
- Collaborating on medical school program evaluation, feedback, continuous improvement and adherence to LCME standards
Baccalaureate Experience - SJV PRIME+ BS MD Students:
Collaborating across three campuses, UC Merced, UCSF, and UCSF-Fresno, to deliver the SJV PRIME+ BS/MD program including:
- Collaborating on student recruitment with Outreach and Admissions teams
- Overseeing student progression to meet program requirements
- Planning and hosting events that foster community, engagement, mentorship, and student success
- Providing a dedicated student affairs team to coordinate services and student support
- Providing co-curricular activities including community engagement, health care shadowing, and research opportunities
- Building partnerships with SJV community clinical sites for student volunteering, shadowing, and learning experiences
- Creating community engagement and research symposia for baccalaureate students and the UC Merced community
Pre-Health Student Experience:
- Connecting interested students with mentors in health-related fields
- Collaborating with the UC Merced Career Advising Team and other academic advising units
- Creating partnerships with community health organizations for students to shadow practicing health professionals
- Providing webinars and information for medical school application support
