Office of Medical Education Overview

The Office of Medical Education (OME) coordinates all aspects of medical education efforts across the educational spectrum at UC Merced, including:

  • Supporting UC Merced undergraduate students: we collaborate with the career advising team, provide MCAT preparation and individualized med school application support. We connect students with opportunities to work in SJV community sites promoting health and wellness. We create partnerships with community health organizations for students to shadow practicing health professionals. We help connect interested students with research mentors. We support Health Scholars in a Living and Learning Community and pre-health career experiences including advising, community engagement, research, shadowing, and application support.
  • SJV PRIME BS to MD Pathway: We collaborate with Outreach and Admissions and provide student support. We host welcome and orientation and provide a student navigator to coordinate services. We provide para-curricular activities including mentoring, community engagement, health care shadowing, research opportunities. We provide a medical school curriculum, including preparing and delivering UCSF School of Medicine Foundations 1 curriculum. We conduct faculty recruitment and development, scheduling, coordination of clinical placements, etc. We build partnerships with SJV community clinical sites for student volunteering, shadowing, and learning experiences. We collaborate across three campuses, coordinating with UCSF and UCSF Fresno for BS/MD program.
  • Medical Education Evaluation and Assessment: We conduct ongoing evaluation of UCM medical education programs and student needs to promote continuous improvement, including assessment of medical student progress, and assessment of needs of students who transfer to UC Merced from community colleges and desire pre-health careers. We assure adherence to Licensing Committee on Medical Education standards.
