Department of Medical Education Overview
The Department of Medical Education (DOME) coordinates all aspects of medical education efforts across educational spectrums at UC Merced, including:
Supporting UC Merced baccalaureate students by:
- Collaborating with the UC Merced Career Advising Team and other academic advising units at UC Merced
- Providing individualized medical school application support
- Connecting students with opportunities to work in SJV community sites promoting health and wellness
- Creating partnerships with community health organizations for students to shadow practicing health professionals
- Connecting interested students with mentors in health-related fields
- Supporting pre-health students in Living and Learning Communities and pre-health career experiences including advising, community engagement, and application support
SJV PRIME+ BS to MD Program Students by:
- Collaborating with UC Merced Outreach/Admissions to provide student support
- Planning and hosting student welcome, orientation, and program events that foster community, engagement, and student success
- Providing a dedicated student affairs team to coordinate services
- Providing co-curricular activities including mentoring, community engagement, health care shadowing, and research opportunities
- Building partnerships with SJV community clinical sites for student volunteering, shadowing, and learning experiences
- During the MD part of the program beginning fall 2027, will deliver the UCSF School of Medicine Foundations 1 medical school curriculum
- Collaborating across three campuses, coordinating with UCSF and UCSF Fresno for our BS/MD program
Medical Education Evaluation and Assessment:
- We conduct ongoing evaluation of the UC Merced medical education programs and students’ needs to promote continuous improvement. This includes assessment of student progress, and assessment of the needs of students who transfer to UC Merced from community colleges and desire pre-health careers. We assure adherence to the Licensing Committee on Medical Education standards.
