The purpose of Student Assessment in SJV PRIME+ is to oversee student academic and pathway progress with the SJV PRIME+ Pathway Requirements, promote student success, and make recommendations regarding student advancement as it pertains to conditional acceptance to UCSF School of Medicine (SOM).
Student academic records and pathway progress will be reviewed each semester by the School of Medicine Readiness Committee (SRC).
FERPA Disclosure: The San Joaquin Valley PRIME+ BS/MD pathway is a joint initiative between UCSF, UCSF-Fresno, and UC Merced. Faculty and staff from all three educational institutions are school officials who review student education records pertaining to the pathway in order to admit students, review student progress in the program, and determine continued eligibility to enroll in the School of Medicine. FERPA allows UC Merced to disclose education records, without consent, to its program partners UCSF-Fresno and UCSF for these purposes as schools in which a PRIME+ participant seeks to enroll by participating in the PRIME+ Pathway.
Pathway Requirements and Conditional Acceptance to SOM
SJV PRIME+ Advising will meet with students to review and acknowledge SJV PRIME+ progress and pathway standing. Students who meet SJV PRIME+ Pathway Requirements will be recommended by the SRC to UCSF SOM.
However, if a student faces academic or personal challenges to meeting requirements, this will prompt a series of proactive supportive actions by the SRC to attempt to address issue(s), including the following steps:
- If a student does not meet pathway requirements in any given semester, the SRC will outline a Remediation Plan. The student will review the Remediation Plan with SJV PRIME+ Advising and acknowledge the terms of the Remediation Plan by signing and dating the Remediation Plan contract.
- If a student does not meet the expectations of the Remediation Plan, the SRC will determine if it is possible for a student to meet pathway requirements by the end of Fall in Year 4. If so, the SRC will require the student to meet the terms of a revised Remediation Plan. The student will review the Remediation Plan with SJV PRIME+ Advising and acknowledge the terms of the Remediation Plan by signing and dating the Remediation Plan contract. If a student does not meet the expectations of the revised Remediation Plan, the student will be at-risk of losing conditional acceptance.
- If a student does not meet pathway requirements by the end of Fall semester in the fourth year, the student will be referred to the SRC for formal dismissal from SJV PRIME+.

Note: The SRC may determine that a student is unable to meet pathway requirements by end of Fall semester in the fourth year, and reserves the right to dismiss a student from SJV PRIME+ prior to this point. Dismissal from SJV PRIME+ does not affect enrollment as a student at UC Merced but may affect any financial aid or scholarships connected to SJV PRIME+. Students who are dismissed from SJV PRIME+ and no longer have conditional acceptance to UCSF SOM may identify another path to medicine, through which SJV PRIME+ Advising will be able to provide resources, outline a plan to take the MCAT, among other career advising.
