Student Appeals

Decisions Eligible for Appeal  Decisions Ineligible for Appeal 
  • A Remediation Plan 
  • Early dismissal decisions (made on or before the end of Fall Semester 5)
  • Dismissal decisions made at the end of semester 6 or later
  • Admissions decisions at the baccalaureate (BS) or medical school (MD) entery points

 

Student Appeals – Remediation Plan

If the student disagrees with the terms of the Remediation Plan developed by the School of Medicine Readiness Committee (SRC), they must submit a written appeal* via email addressed to the SRC, within 5 business days of receiving their Remediation Plan from their SJV PRIME+ Advisor. 

The SRC Co-Chairs will determine whether to revise the Remediation Plan. The Co-Chairs will communicate their decision to the SJV PRIME+ Advisor within 10 business days, who then notifies the student. Failure to meet the remediation plan’s expectations may result in dismissal from the SJV PRIME+ Program. 

* Written appeal must include a summary of suggested amendments and reasons for the amendment.  

Student Appeals – Early Dismissal Decisions

If the student disagrees with the early dismissal decision made by the School of Medicine Readiness Committee (SRC), they must submit a written appeal (see below for required information) via email addressed to the SRC, within 10 business days. 

The SRC Co-Chairs will forward the student’s appeal to the SJV PRIME+ Appeals Committee to make a final decision.  

The student’s appeal will be reviewed by the Appeals Committee and the SRC Co-Chairs will be provided with a final decision within 10 business days of receipt of the student's appeal. The SRC Co-Chairs will respond to the student with the final decision to uphold or reverse the original early dismissal decision.  

Required Information for Early Dismissal Appeal 

If a student decides to submit an appeal, the appeal must contain the following elements: 

  1. A description of events or challenges that impacted academic performance, program engagement during the semester(s), or ability to fulfill the Remediation Plan. Please include any specific dates/timelines. 
  2. An explanation of how those events or challenges impacted specific classes or meeting program expectations. 
  3. A description of the specific ways and frequency in which the student sought assistance, including the resources, faculty, and staff. 
  4. A detailed plan including the specific steps the student will take if they are allowed to remain in the SJV PRIME+ Program. Students should ensure the plan addresses the events/challenges they described.
