Required Activities & Attendance Requirements

As part of the SJV PRIME+ Observing and Maintaining Professionalism Program Requirement, attendance at SJV PRIME+ events and associated activities are required for students, unless specific events are otherwise noted as optional. Required SJV PRIME+ events include:

  • Weekly IML Sessions
  • Monthly Mentoring Sessions and engagement events (e.g., in-person dinner)
  • SJV PRIME+ Program Engagement Events (e.g. UCSF Fresno Visit)
  • Clinical and Community Engagement
  • Complete research and service-learning

Students are allowed 2 unexcused absences from required events/activities each semester to remain in “Good Standing.” With advanced notice, events and activities can be excused with the approval of SJV PRIME+ faculty lead. Excused absences are approved on a case-by-case basis, but generally include medical and health related illnesses, family emergencies, and significant life events. If students have any questions regarding a specific situation, students should contact the Student Navigator. At the end of each semester or as needed, the Student Navigator will inform students of any unexcused absences.

If a student does not meet the attendance threshold, this will prompt a series of warnings about attendance including:

  1. Verbal Warning - If a student misses more than two required activities within a given semester, the Student Navigator will notify the student verbally regarding these absences and check in to identify early if there are any challenges a student is facing.
  2. Written warning via email- If a student misses more than two events within a given semester, an email notifying the student of the absences and reminder of the SJV PRIME+ Observing and Maintaining Professionalism requirement includes attendance of required SJV PRIME+ events and activities. The student has an opportunity to respond to this email with information regarding their absences.
  3. Intervention - If a student continues to not meet the attendance requirements the following semester:
    1. The student will be required to meet with the Student Navigator regarding attendance before the beginning of the following semester.  The student will be considered “Not in Good Standing” with the program and a Remediation Plan will be developed. Continued absences in following semesters could be cause for dismissal from SJV PRIME+, at the SRC’s discretion.
    2. The student will be considered “Not in Good Standing” with the program and a Remediation Plan will be developed.

    3. Continued absences in following semesters could be cause for dismissal from SJV PRIME+, at the SRC’s discretion.
