Requirements for Acceptance to UCSF SoM

ALL REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET BY THE BEGINNING OF THE FALL SEMESTER OF THE STUDENT’S 4 TH YEAR AT UC MERCED

  1. Students must graduate from UC Merced with an approved major within 4 academic years.
  2. Successful completion of Med Ed Core and associated competencies.
  3. BCPM & cumulative minimum overall GPA of 3.6 by the end of year 3.
    • Review of each student’s academic record will be overseen by the School of Medicine Readiness Committee to ensure students maintain competitiveness for the UCSF SOM. Students not meeting the minimum GPA will receive a Remediation Plan that will include support in the form of mentorship and utilization of resources to improve GPA in ensuing semesters.   
  4. UC Merced residency requirement must be met.
    • Students must complete 24 of the last 36 units in residence in the school of the University of California in which the degree is to be earned.
  5. Students must be involved in a longitudinal project, as well as plan to present their work at a campus, local, regional, state, national, or international conference with the objective of participating in the discovery process of science. Longitudinal projects may be in any of the following areas:
    • Research (can be basic science, clinical research, public health, etc.)
    • Community engagement
    • Public health/policy
  6. Students must complete a sufficient service-learning experience in the healthcare setting, including but not limited to: volunteering at a hospital, medical office, or public health department. Through these activities, students will demonstrate a broader perspective on medical and healthcare issues.    
  7. Students must observe and maintain physician professionalism standards with the objective of building community leaders who are able to apply knowledge learned in different contexts, group projects, and team settings. Being a physician requires interactions with patients and family members. A high standard of professionalism is expected of SJV PRIME+ students.
